Santeri Lahti is a character in UNIVER.SYS. He is a Techne from Virta.
History
Santeri was published to Moeverse on January 7, 2025. His design was finalized on March 14 of the same year.
Character
A steadfast and knowledgable ranger and survivalist, Santeri surveys the forest borders of Virta to rescue lost Techne, especially tourists and campers. However, his first impressions are less than stellar due to his intimidating eyes and gruff demeanor, taking no nonsense from reckless visitors attempting to forage dangerous plants and making a mess around the forests. Despite that, Santeri cared for their safety, even if he's not the best at conveying them.
Santeri rarely had breaks due to his competence and the demanding nature of his job, though he seldom indulged in solving cryptogram puzzles and studying Lumi folk legends. Sometimes, in an attempt to make a good impression towards local Techne, he guides campers through foraging ingredients and survival methods.

- Santeri represents the Sanomalaite M/90, a digital, portable and electronic messaging unit developed by Nokia, first operational in 1983.[1] [2]
- His name Santeri Lahti is a direct reference to the device’s nickname, SANLA. Coincidentally, Santeri is a Finnish variant of Alexander (Aleksanteri), which meant “defender of mankind”, which fits his occupation.
- His interest in cryptograms references the SANLA’s encryption messaging system.[2]
- Santeri's color scheme, including his red eyes, were derived from SANLA's hardware and display. He also wears a cloak, based on how the device sometimes came in canvas bags.[3][2]
Misc.
- He disliked being nicknamed Santtu by other Techne, especially by Arvi, but the nickname grew on him.
- Despite his career, Santeri takes his food seriously, and is willing to discard subpar rations, believing a good-quality meal is necessary.
- He is often the voice of reason among Ilmavasara Forge, mediating Mikko's quiet approach and Sinikka's big-picture plans. This is based on how the SANLA can be both connected to telephone and computers.[1]
- Santeri has a love-hate relationship with false morels. While they can be edible and taste good if cooked properly, most of the visitors he rescued have cases related to false morels.[4]
