Pinterest-chan (also known as Pin-tan or Pinyan) is a fan-created moe anthropomorphism (gijinka) of the Pinterest platform. she embodies digital organization, image collecting, and "pinning" culture as a cheerful anime-style helper.
Overview
Pinterest-chan (ピンタん), affectionately known as Pin-tan or Pinyan, is an original character created by plushpon. She is a moe anthropomorphism (擬人化 / gijinka) of the social media platform Pinterest, portrayed as a cheerful anime girl who personifies the concept of saving and organizing ideas through pins.
The design was first posted by plushpon on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: > “design for fun, i wanted to try making a 'pinterest-chan' type oc ^.^”
She quickly became popular online and inspired a large amount of fanart, now archived on her Toyhouse page.
Appearance
Pinterest-chan features a red and white color palette inspired by Pinterest’s branding. She has:
- Long, pastel pink twin tails
- Robotic white cat-like ears and tail
- Red eyes with white pupils shaped like the “P” Pinterest logo
- A black puff-sleeved top with white lace trim
- A red plaid skirt and striped black and red stockings
- (Occasionally) Red ribbons or black wrist cuffs with white lace trip
Her most distinctive accessories are the large red circular “P” orb(also referred to as beads or bobbles) accessories. One on her chest linked to a black choker with white lace, and two in her hair, representing Pinterest’s logo. She also wears a small “Pin” ornament on her head, which is stuck into a maid-like headdress, doubling a gothic lolita theme and Pinterest theme.
Personality
She is often portrayed as a friendly digital helper who assists users with “pinning” anime girls, anime images, and general moe aesthetics. Her speech pattern includes ending her sentences with the suffix “-pin,” a verbal tic based on the Pinterest “pin.”
Pinterest-chan’s overall design and personality are also inspired by the kind of anime girls that were commonly seen on Pinterest itself, especially during the platform’s early years. These often included kawaii, 2000s-style moe characters; anime girls with big eyes, cute outfits and mannerisms, etc. Pinterest-chan, or Pin-tan, embodies this nostalgic Pinterest look, capturing the feeling of browsing boards filled with cute anime girl art from that time.
Common phrases include:
- “Can I pin this for you-pin?”
- “Pin pin pin...”
- “Owie-pin! @x@” (when she accidentally pins herself)
