Mutsumi Madobe (Japanese: ηͺ“辺む぀み, Madobe Mutsumi) is a moe personification of Windows Vista and the Nanami's older sister.

History

She seems to have been first mentioned in a Tweet from October 3, 2009 from the Nanami's account[1], and appears to have solely been characterized by her Tweets.

Mutsumi was never directly used for promotional purposes, though she was still mentioned in some Madobe Family Trees that have been distributed with some official merchandise. On April Fool's Day 2010, and sometimes later, Mutsumi was the one Tweeting instead of Nanami[2], with the #6me hashtag.

No official artwork of her were made. Artist Sappappa published an unofficial interpretation of Mutsumi inspired by the Tweets on April 20, 2010[3], which gained some derivative artworks from a few other artists. The design gained enough traction to be featured in an Akiba PC Tweet mentioning a picture of a DVD cover titled Simple everyday life for you and Nanami. (あγͺたとγͺγͺみに、シンプルγͺ毎ζ—₯を。) using it[4], though it is documented nowhere else and is certainly just a custom product.

Profile

The older[5] sister of Nanami. Mutsumi is a little taller than her little sister[6] and has larger breasts[7], possibly referring to the optimizations that reduced Windows 7's memory usage.

She likes eating gyudon[8].

Mutsumi prefers to not bother with old software and directly buy newer ones[9], possibly referring to Vista's compatibility issues at the time.

Trivia

  • Nanami calls her "big sister" while their older brother and parents call her "Mutsumi"[10].
  • Her name might have been intended to be written in Kanjis (睦美) rather than Hiraganas (む぀み)[11].
  • Mutsumi appearing on April Fools Day became a small running gag as she made unexpected posts on April 1, 2012[12], 2013[13], and 2017[14].
