The creator of Me-tan gave some guidelines regarding the use of the character.

Summary

Permission to use Me-tan, owned by the original author, in any way on Futaba Channel and related sites, is granted, since the users from that community contributed to her development. The Trouble Windows logo is also owned by the author and can be used like Me-tan too.

The author does not mind "dōjin level use" outside Futaba Channel as long as it is done with common sense and in a way that does not harm the reputation of Me-tan.

An exception is made for the Softbank Publishing Co., Ltd. company, which may not use Me-tan at all because of a previous unauthorized use in their Netrunner trading cards; legal action may be taken otherwise.

Use on the Moeverse Wiki

It is unclear what is meant by "dōjin level use" and whether the Moeverse Wiki's purposes can be qualified as such. Therefore, as a place outside and unrelated to Futaba Channel, works featuring Me-tan are deemed to be unlicensed. However, due to her historical significance and in accordance with the Moeverse Rules, a limited number of artworks from the original artist and other artworks that may involve her, essential for the documentation of notable subjects, are being uploaded and used in a way that we assert to be fair.

このページは私が2003年8月6日に二次元裏＠ふたば掲示板に投稿したキャラクター、
「Meたん」
に関する著作権者であることを表示するためのサイトです。

著作権利用許諾に関して、この「Meたん」をふたば☆ちゃんねるのキャラクターとして、
ふたば☆ちゃんねるユーザーが育てて来たという事実経緯がございますので、
ふたば☆ちゃんねるおよび関連サイト内では「meたん」キャラクターの著作権二次利用をすることに関してなんら制限・制約を加えない、
つまり自由に利用して構わないことを原作者として表明いたします。
併せて、「とらぶる・ういんどうず」のロゴデザインも私の著作物であり、 著作権二次利用は「Meたん」同様、ご自由に行ってください。
ふたば☆ちゃんねる外での、いわゆる「同人」レベルの利用は基本的に関知いたしておりませんので、
「Meたん」の評判を落とす行為にならない同人活動であれば常識の範囲内でどうぞ。
但し、
当ＨＰで従来意思表示をしてきたにもかかわらず、
ソフトバンク　パブリッシング（株）発行のネットランナー2004年5月号付録、トレーディングカード
ねとらん者第三弾にて「Meたん」を無断利用されておりますので
今後とも、当該会社の出版物に関して「Meたん」の利用許諾は一切与えません。
また当該会社による無断利用が発覚した場合には、法的措置を講じることもございます。
