Magical Toko-chan Project (Japanese:マジカルとこちゃんプロジェクト) is the universe where characters such as Magical Toko and Solaris-chan originate from. Unlike Trouble Windows, Magical Toko-chan Project has a developed story, plot, lore, and setting. It is also referred to as BSD Princess Magical Toko-chan.

This project was meant to be an imaginary anime with a total of 52 episodes.[3]Toko, a princess of BSD in another world, navigates the human world, encountering various people, and undergoing personal growth – blending both comical and serious tones. The narrative delves into themes of love, adolescence, overcoming challenges, and the power of friendship. Tailored for junior high school students, the story resonates with the experiences of young viewers.[4]

Magical Toko-chan Project was developed using the “bazaar method”. In this method, anyone who contributes material is instantly considered a participant. The imaginary anime script initially started with the draft by the user Nark (ナーク). It garnered a lot of responses, and due to the enthusiasm, others joined the project, and even created character images and theme songs.

Although Magical Toko-chan Project's site is still available, most links such as episodes, airing lists and character details are unavailable.

Lore

In 1987 A.D. (Year X in the New Freeyuan Calendar), Toko-chan was born.

The Creator's prophecy descended to Freeyu.

"At the end of the millennium, a flow will arise on Earth. The flow will make it impossible for people to communicate with each other. The one will become all, and the individual will become the whole."

This prophecy was delivered to all the leaders of Freeyu, but each interpreted it differently. Each nation began to deal with the Earth in its own way.

Twelve years have passed since then, and despite the best efforts of Freeyu, the prophecy has yet to be revealed.

Setting

The Magical Toko-chan Project is set in the world of Freeyu (フリーユ界, Furiiyu-kai)[5], an otherworldly realm that plays a crucial role in supporting computer science on Earth behind the scenes. Freeyu and Earth are connected by "Prayer Energy" (祈りのエネルギー, Inori no Enerugii), which is sent to the earthly world. When humans receive this energy, it greatly enhances their abilities to think logically, find inspiration, and perform other skills needed for computer programming, synergizing with their own determination to work hard.

However, only a select few people can receive and utilize Prayer Energy to enhance their abilities, making them truly special individuals. In the human world, they are referred to as "hackers," "wizards," and "gurus." It can be said that the rapid advancement of computer science on Earth has been supported by this Prayer Energy.

Freeyu has multiple points of connection with Earth, known as "gates," through which Prayer Energy flows into the earthly realm. Those with higher “power”, can freely travel between these gates. The areas surrounding these gates have a high concentration of Prayer Energy, leading to the development of the computer industry and computer science. One such area is the so-called “Electric Town”, which include Akihabara in Tokyo and Nihonbashi in Osaka, two of Japan's largest gates.

The Freeyuans possess the ability to manipulate the world to some extent by interfering with cause-and-effect laws, referred to as "programs." This manipulation is a form of magic known as "Reprogramming" in the human world. However, humans on Earth can only utilize this magic through "auxiliary machines" (computers), since they cannot directly alter the cause-and-effect laws themselves, as computers are created based on the laws of the earthly realm.

Occasionally, individuals with powers comparable to those of Freeyuans emerge on Earth, and they are called "Psychics" (能力者, Nōryoku-sha). If a Psychic were to excessively demonstrate their abilities on Earth, it could potentially alter programs. To prevent this, Freeyu provides protection and guidance to help Psychics use their powers in the right direction. This is done indirectly, without revealing the existence of Freeyu.

The Freeyu community is concerned that if Prayer Energy fails to reach Earth, there will be an excess of programs and systems with various bugs and usability issues, similar to the Year 2000 problem. This issue is recognized as a significant challenge for Freeyu, and it is their responsibility to safeguard Earth from such "interferences."
