Derivatives:Rules
The Moeverse Wiki admits Derivative Content, which similarly to the main scope can be separated into two categories, Informative Content about Existing Derivative Works, and New Derivative Works by Moeverse Members.
Any derivation must not disrespect the Original Work nor its Copyright. However, historically significant works from a distant enough past may still be documented (example: DejaVu's OS-tan interpretation or SoftBank's controversial use of existing Characters).
The Moeverse Principles and Rules allow Derivatives of Original Works made by Moeverse Members such as faithful artworks of Original Characters, however Works such as reinterpretations of Characters or stories are not allowed by default since there is always a possibility of misrepresenting them, which the original author might not want to see. For this reason, do not make or document such Derivative Works without explicit permission.
Copyright holders of an Original Work can with a proof of identity request the removal of any Derivative Work of it at any time.
Informative Content about Existing Derivative Works
Like for the main counterpart, this consists of documenting existing Derivative Works made by others. They can take the form of portrayals that were not precised by the original creator or contradict with the original characterizations, alternate designs, new Characters that did not exist in the original Universe, etc. They must be notable or interesting enough as the goal is not to list every single random reinterpretation that can be found.
Such content must be related to a non-original Moe Character or Universe that already has an entry on the main scope. Alternate characterizations or designs that do not fundamentally change a Character or Universe or contradict with the original material must be put together in a page titled the same as the page in the main scope, prepended with the Derivatives:
Namespace (see for example Derivatives:Windows 11 (Karv)).
Derivative Characters or Universes that fundamentally deviate from the Original, or Original Characters part of a Derivative Universe, must have their own page under the Derivatives:
Namespace instead, following similar rules as disambiguation of main scope articles (example: Derivatives:OS-tan (DejaVu)). Nested or mixed Derivatives or disambiguations can have multiple parentheses if needed like "Windows 11 (Karv) (Username)" for an hypothetical Derivative of Karv's Windows 11 made by Username.
References supporting all statements are welcomed, but not necessary as content under the Derivative:
Namespace is not required to follow the quality and verifiability standards that is expected for content in the main scope. Nevertheless, please stick to reasonable information and do not make up things. Statements that cannot be verified can still be removed and may not be put again without a proper reference.
New Derivative Content
The Moeverse Wiki also admits New Derivative Content made by Moeverse users themselves. Like for Original Content, Moeverse must be the main or original publication source of your work, or a major one. If great part of the work has already been published at another place and already gained some appreciable interest, it is not admissible to this Wiki as New Derivative Work, but could still be documented following the Rules above, though you may not document yourself your own Derivative Work.
Lone Derivative Characters are not admissible, and must be part of an Universe in which Moe Characters are predominant, that you either built yourself or is derived from an existing Work while having notable distinguishing features. Some elements or Characters may be taken directly without notable alterations from the original Work, but this must not be the norm.
If the conditions are satisfied, then the following Articles are admissible:
- An entry explaining your Universe is not only admissible, but mandatory, and must be added to the Derivative Universes Category.
- The Universe is considered as Derivative even if it was built from scratch, as long as it contains any Derivative Content playing a notable role.
- A (not necessarily Moe) Character in your Universe that is developed enough and not too minor, and that is Original or sufficiently distinct from the original.
- If the Character does not distinguish itself from the original, it may neither have its own page nor information added to its existing page. You may only explain the Character directly in the Universe Page or another appropriate page like a Character List.
- A page to organize, develop, explain, or concretize your Derivative Universe or story (lists, lores, setting and locations, chapters, etc.).
- When they are not about a specific subject like a Character, place or event, such pages should be subpages of the main page about your Universe (examples: Derivatives:Universe Name/Characters, Derivatives:Universe Name/Lore, Derivatives:Universe Name/Episode 1).
All Derivative Content Pages must belong to the Derivatives: Namespace and cannot belong to Categories used for Informative or Original Content in the main scope. For example, Derivative Characters cannot belong to the Character Category nor any of its Subcategories, except Derivative Characters and its Subcategories.
