Dejiko (Japanese: でじこ), also known by her full name, Di Gi Charat (Japanese: デ・ジ・キャラット) is the mascot of the Japanese store chain GAMERS, and the main character of the Di Gi Charat universe.
History
Dejiko was created in 1998 when Koge*Donbo was approached by the company BROCCOLI to create a character to promote their stores, first appearing in the July 1998 issue of their magazine From GAMERS, in its 4koma "Gema-Gema".[1] She was later officially designated the chain's mascot in December.[2]
In 2007, she would be given an updated design with red eyes and an adapted uniform[2], though this design would be reverted in 2013 and retconned into Broccoddess masquerading as her.[3]
In 2020, she would also begin serving as an ambassador character for the manga reading app Manga Door.[4]
For many years, she appeared on a large sign near the Akihabara station, greeting the viewer from the GAMERS shop with "Welcome to Akihabara!". Unfortunately, this sign would be removed in 2015.[5]
Character
Dejiko is an extraterrestrial cat girl who wears a maid uniform, a white cat hat, paw gloves and boots, and large bells in her hair and on her tail. She has the ability to shoot lasers from her eyes. She ends her sentences with "nyo".
