95-tan (Japanese: 95たん, 95-tan), also known as 95-neesan (Japanese: 95姐さん) or simply 95, is an OS-tan that personifies Windows 95. She is one of the most recognized OS-tans, alongside Me-tan, 2K-tan and XP-tan.

History

Unlike other notable OS-tans, there was initially no 95-tan gallery on the OS-tan Vault, and it was still not listed on the latest 2003 archive of the homepage on December 7, 2003. The next archive was only made on April 12, 2004 and has a 95-tan entry with a last update date of 2004-04-02 so 95-tan likely debuted between December 2003 and April 2004.

She appeared as one of the main characters in the Trouble Windows Opening published on April 2004.

Design

She is typically depicted as a classy young woman dressed in Japanese traditional attire, which are hakama, geta sandals, and a pink kimono with a cherry blossom pattern. Her kimono pattern is based on the "Hanami" wallpaper, which was included in the exclusive CD-ROM releases of Windows 95 in Japan, named "hana256.bmp". 95-tan also wears an iconic four-colored ribbon on the back of her hair, which were the colors of the Windows logo.

Character

Since 95-tan's current design were made by multiple designers who are all unknown, it was impossible to know what was originally intended of her characterization, which spawned multiple derivative portrayals, some different from another.
