Ōbaba-sama (Japanese: 大婆様, Ōbaba-sama), is an OS-tan that personifies Windows 3.1.

History

The earliest known archive of Ōbaba-sama in OS-tan Vault (labeled as 3.1-tan) dated back to February 14, 2004, so it could be assumed that she first appeared in 2004[1].

She appeared in a single image (6-c) of the Trouble Windows Opening released in 2004, as the girl inside a CRT screen labelled 3.1, though with a different design, notably with blue eyes.

Character

Most depictions of Ōbaba-sama remained consistent, with minimal changes did to her hair and eye colors, gothic lolita dress and her "3.1" bow. She is often accompanied by a black cat nicknamed DOS Kitty (DOSぬこ).

Derivative portrayals of Ōbaba-sama expanded her characterization and relationships with other OS-tans.

Trivia

  • In Japanese, Ōbaba-sama (大婆様) means great/big grandma.
  • Though she was initially listed as 3.1-tan (3.1たん) in the OS-tan Vault, Japanese works do not use this name and refer to her as Ōbaba-sama (大婆様).
  • In the Eastern community, Ōbaba-sama is consistently portrayed as having an unexplained link to the food, or term as it is used with her, koshian (こしあん). References to the term alongside her portrayal have been found dating back to October 6 2007 on Pixiv, of which none explain the link's origins.
  • Ōbaba-sama is often depicted as referring to the viewer's self-insert in works involving her as "pusshi" (ぷっしー).
